Julius Angus Smith Jay
-SAVANNAH- Julius Angus Smith fondly known as "Jay", 48, died Monday, October 3, 2011, after a short respiratory illness. Born in Savannah, he was the son of Olin Thompson Smith and the late Ann Davidson Smith. He attended Savannah Christian Preparatory School and graduated from Armstrong State College. Jay loved the ocean and was an avid deep sea fisherman and surfer.
After many years of kidney dysfunction, he received the gift of a donated kidney which gave him new life. He gave back by dedicating his time to the National Kidney Foundation, where he was on the board of directors. He counseled and shared his successful experiences with many other incipient transplant patients, as well as campaigning for organ donor awareness and living wills. He was very involved with The Transplant Olympic Games and was well decorated with gold, silver and bronze medals for swimming.
He is survived by his father, O. Thompson Smith, brother, Tye Davidson Smith, nephews, Tyler Brook Smith and Jonathan Davidson Smith, aunt and uncle, Gina Smith Sunderland and William Irvin Sunderland, cousins, Dana Reinschmidt Tompkins and Robert Tompkins and many other cousins.

Visitation: Thursday, October 6, 6:00-8:00 pm at Fox and Weeks, Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside burial: Friday, Oct. 7, at 11:30, Bonaventure Cemetery.

I was so very sorry to hear of Jay's passing! We went to SCPS together & he was truly a sweet guy! He was solely responsible for helping me pass my swimming test at Georgia Southern which enabled me to graduate! I'm so sorry for your loss & please know that Jay will be always missed& remembered with fondness !
